2804 Hospital Update

Health Service works on schedule

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

The redevelopment of Mt View Aged Care facility at the Terang and Mortlake Health Service (TMHS) is progressing well, with works on schedule and within budget.

The works is part of a $1.8 million project at the healthcare complex, designed to provide better amenities for patients and residents. The Mt View project includes three new bedrooms, the addition of an extended dining room and sitting area, and a new deck. The 15 beds at the facility will all be single rooms with more space for residents.

Work has been under way for the past three months and TMHS chief executive Julia Ogdin said the rapport between the builders and staff is going well. “Communications between the health service, the architect Baade Harbour Australia and builders Nicholson Construction, have to date been excellent,” Ms Ogdin said. “The open nature of the communication has ensured that any small issues have been rectified in a timely manner, meaning that the project is keeping to the project schedule.”

Ms Ogdin said that the refurbishment would improve privacy, comfort and safety for Mt View residents. “The privacy that comes with a single room is something that we have all come to expect,” she said. “Projects of this magnitude always work on tight financial and time constraints so to be three and a half months into the build and be both on time and on budget is a very positive sign. The dry weather to date has allowed the building team to get a good start on the project and not lose time to rain delays.”

The refurbishment of Mt View is expected to be completed in July. The next stage of the project will se the redevelopment of the hospital’s acute ward north wing. State Government funding has contributed $850,000 to the project with TMHS committing a further $660,000 from cash reserves.

Community fund-raising has already started and the entire project is scheduled to be finished by January 2017.
